Summary:

Clary Fray, an ordinary teenager living in New York City, discovers she is a descendant of a line of demon hunters known as Shadowhunters, after her mother is attacked and abducted by a mysterious figure. Plot:

Clary Fray's life takes an extraordinary turn when she witnesses a murder at a nightclub that only she can see. This event is quickly followed by the violent abduction of her mother, Jocelyn, by a powerful demon. Clary is then introduced to Jace Wayland, a mysterious and attractive Shadowhunter, who reveals that she too possesses the rare bloodline of human-angel hybrids tasked with protecting the world from demonic forces. With her best friend Simon Lewis in tow, Clary joins Jace and his adoptive siblings, Alec and Isabelle Lightwood, at the New York Institute, a hidden sanctuary for Shadowhunters.

Together, they embark on a dangerous quest to rescue Jocelyn and retrieve the Mortal Cup, a powerful artifact that can create new Shadowhunters or control demons. Their search leads them through a secret New York City, bustling with Downworlders like warlocks, vampires, and werewolves. Clary soon uncovers shocking truths about her family, including the identity of her father, Valentine Morgenstern, a rogue Shadowhunter with a dark agenda to "purify" the world by destroying all Downworlders. As Clary begins to unlock her own latent abilities and memories, she must confront her destiny, navigate treacherous alliances, and prevent Valentine from acquiring the Mortal Cup to fulfill his destructive plans, all while grappling with growing feelings for Jace and the ever-present danger of the supernatural world.
