Summary:
The Princess and the Frog is a charming animated musical set in the vibrant city of New Orleans in the 1920s. It tells the story of Tiana, a hardworking and ambitious waitress who dreams of one day opening her own restaurant. Her life takes a magical turn when she meets a spoiled and charming prince, Naveen, who has been turned into a frog by a conniving voodoo witch doctor. The film is set in the lively and colorful city of New Orleans, where Tiana (voiced by Anika Noni Rose) is a young, hardworking, and ambitious waitress. She is a woman of action and a firm believer in the power of hard work, a value she inherited from her late father. Her lifelong dream is to save up enough money to open her own restaurant.
Meanwhile, the film introduces Prince Naveen (voiced by Bruno Campos), a charming, irresponsible, and carefree prince from the kingdom of Maldonia. He arrives in New Orleans and quickly falls victim to a conniving and treacherous voodoo witch doctor, Dr. Facilier (voiced by Keith David), who turns him into a frog.
Naveen, in his frog form, meets Tiana, who he mistakes for a princess because she is wearing a beautiful gown for a party. He tells her that he is a prince who needs a kiss to break a voodoo spell. Tiana, initially hesitant, agrees to kiss him, but the kiss backfires, and she is also turned into a frog.
The two, now in their frog forms, are forced to go on a journey through the bayou to find Mama Odie (voiced by Jenifer Lewis), a wise and eccentric voodoo priestess who can break the spell. Their journey is a series of comical and action-packed misadventures, with them running from the witch doctor's minions, and meeting new friends along the way.
Their friends include a charming and jazz-loving alligator named Louis (voiced by Michael-Leon Wooley), who dreams of playing with human musicians, and a romantic firefly named Ray (voiced by Jim Cummings), who is in love with the evening star.
The film's climax is a high-stakes confrontation between Tiana and Naveen (in their frog forms) and Dr. Facilier and his minions. The climax is a battle of wit and magic, with Tiana and Naveen fighting to get a voodoo doll from Dr. Facilier that is the key to breaking the spell.
The film concludes with a final, emotional confrontation. Tiana and Naveen have a choice: they can either become human again or stay as frogs and get married.
