Plot:

Chris Gardner invests his family's life savings in portable bone density scanners, which prove difficult to sell, leaving his family in financial distress. His wife, Linda, overworked and frustrated, eventually leaves him and their five-year-old son, Christopher Jr. Evicted from their apartment, Chris and Christopher Jr. are forced into homelessness. Despite their dire circumstances, Chris manages to secure an unpaid internship at Dean Witter, a highly competitive stockbroker training program, with the promise of a lucrative job offer for the one successful intern.
