Plot:

In 1963, Stephen Hawking is a brilliant but eccentric cosmology student at Cambridge University, focused on finding a "single theory of everything." He meets and falls in love with Jane Wilde, a literature student. Soon after, Stephen begins to experience symptoms of clumsiness and disorientation. Following a fall, he is diagnosed with motor neuron disease, a progressive illness that will eventually paralyze him and is given a life expectancy of two years. Despite the grim prognosis, Jane commits to him, and they marry, determined to fight the disease together.

As Stephen's condition worsens, he struggles with speech and mobility, relying on a wheelchair and eventually a voice synthesizer.
