Plot:

The story opens in 1964, at the New York World's Fair. A young, enthusiastic boy named Frank Walker attempts to present his homemade, rudimentary jetpack to the stern inventor David Nix, hoping to gain entry into a secret society of dreamers and innovators. Nix dismisses Frank's invention as not "finished," but a mysterious young girl named Athena, an audio-animatronic (AA) recruiter, secretly gives Frank a special pin. When Frank touches the pin, he is granted access to a hidden portal beneath the "It's a Small World" ride, leading him to a dazzling, futuristic city known as Tomorrowland, a place where the world's brightest minds collaborate to build a better future.

Decades later, in the present day, we are introduced to Casey Newton, a bright and optimistic teenager living in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Casey is deeply troubled by the impending demolition of a NASA launchpad, a symbol of humanity's past aspirations for space exploration. Night after night, she sabotages the demolition equipment, only to be caught and arrested. Upon her release from jail, she discovers a peculiar pin among her personal belongings. When she touches the pin, she is instantly transported into a vibrant, utopian landscape filled with sleek architecture, soaring vehicles, and lush greenery. The vision is breathtaking, but it's temporary; the moment she lets go of the pin, she's back in her mundane reality. Driven by insatiable curiosity, Casey tries to understand the pin's origin and the fantastical world it reveals, only to find that its power is fleeting, often cutting off her experience at critical moments.

Casey's attempts to reactivate the pin lead her to a vintage memorabilia shop called "Blast From the Past" in Houston. The eccentric owners, Hugo and Ursula, are initially helpful, but their demeanor quickly shifts when Casey mentions the pin. They reveal themselves to be highly advanced, hostile audio-animatronics (AAs) sent to capture her. A frantic chase ensues, with Casey narrowly escaping the robotic duo thanks to the timely intervention of Athena, who has not aged a day since 1964. Athena, a highly sophisticated AA herself, explains that she is a recruiter for Tomorrowland and that Casey is a "dreamer" – someone essential to saving the future. She urges Casey to come with her to find Frank Walker, the only one who can help them.

Athena guides Casey to Frank's secluded, booby-trapped farmhouse in upstate New York. Frank, now an embittered and cynical recluse, is far from the optimistic boy Casey saw in archival footage. He reluctantly allows them in, but he is hostile and dismissive of Casey's idealism, insisting that the future is beyond saving. He reveals that he was exiled from Tomorrowland by David Nix, the very man who once welcomed him, and that the city has since changed dramatically. Frank's house is filled with monitors showing a grim projection of Earth's future, indicating an imminent global catastrophe, which he believes is inevitable and irreversible. Casey, however, refuses to give up hope, arguing that the future isn't predetermined and can still be changed.

After much persuasion and a perilous journey involving a teleportation device hidden beneath the Eiffel Tower, Frank, Casey, and Athena finally make their way back to Tomorrowland. The city, while still magnificent, now feels sterile and devoid of the creative spirit Frank remembers. They confront David Nix, who is now the overseer of Tomorrowland. Nix reveals the true nature of the catastrophic future Frank has been observing: it's not a prediction, but a transmission from a machine he built – a giant monitor array that broadcasts a constant stream of negative imagery and data about humanity's impending doom. This broadcast, Nix explains, subtly influences humanity, acting as a self-fulfilling prophecy, pushing people towards apathy and despair, making them accept their fate rather than fight for a better one. Nix believes humanity has squandered its potential and is not worth saving, and that by showing them their inevitable end, he is merely allowing nature to take its course.

Casey is horrified by Nix's nihilistic philosophy. She realizes that the monitor isn't just showing a future; it's actively creating it by eroding hope. The only way to save the world is to destroy the monitor. A desperate struggle ensues as Nix activates his AA security forces to stop them. Frank, using his old inventions and knowledge of Tomorrowland's systems, fights alongside Casey. Athena, revealing her true purpose as a recruiter designed to find and inspire dreamers, becomes a crucial part of their plan. She explains that she is an advanced AA, and her core mechanism is the only thing capable of overloading and destroying the monitor's main power source. In a heroic act of self-sacrifice, Athena pilots a jetpack into the monitor's energy core, causing a massive explosion that destroys the machine. Before she fully deactivates, she imparts a final message of hope to Casey, reminding her that the future belongs to those who dare to dream.

With the monitor destroyed, the insidious broadcast of doom ceases. The world is no longer being subtly manipulated towards its destruction. Frank and Casey, now united by a renewed sense of purpose and optimism, understand that the future is not a given, but a choice. They begin a new mission, inspired by Athena's legacy. They create new recruiter pins, similar to the one Athena gave Frank and Casey, and distribute them to children around the world – young dreamers, artists, scientists, and innovators. The final scenes show these children, diverse and full of potential, touching their pins and being granted glimpses of Tomorrowland, ready to be inspired and to build the better future that Frank and Casey, and Athena before them, always believed was possible. The cycle of hope continues, fueled by the belief that collective human ingenuity and optimism can overcome any challenge.
