TRUE GRIT (1969)

Summary:

In the late 19th century, a determined and headstrong 14-year-old girl named Mattie Ross embarks on a quest for justice after her father is murdered by a notorious outlaw. Seeking retribution, she hires Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn, a tough, one-eyed, and often drunken U.S. Marshal known for his "true grit," to track down the killer.

Despite Cogburn's reluctance and the dangers ahead, Mattie insists on accompanying him, forming an unlikely and often contentious partnership. Their perilous journey through the wilderness is further complicated by the arrival of La Boeuf, an equally determined Texas Ranger also hunting the same fugitive for a different crime.

Plot:

After her father, Frank Ross, is murdered by his hired hand Tom Chaney in Fort Smith, Arkansas, 14-year-old Mattie Ross arrives to claim her father's body and settle his affairs. Driven by a fierce desire for justice, she decides to hire a U.S. Marshal to track down Chaney. After observing several marshals, she settles on Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn, an aging, gruff, and hard-drinking one-eyed lawman known for his ruthlessness.

Cogburn initially resists the idea of taking a young girl with him, but Mattie's persistence and shrewd negotiation skills eventually convince him. They are soon joined by La Boeuf, a Texas Ranger who has been tracking Chaney for months, as Chaney is also wanted in Texas for the murder of a senator. Despite their differing motivations and methods, the three set off into the rugged terrain of the Indian Territory to hunt Chaney, who has joined up with the notorious outlaw Lucky Ned Pepper and his gang. Their journey is fraught with danger, including encounters with other criminals, shootouts, and the challenges of the harsh wilderness, testing their resolve and forging an improbable bond.
