U Turn (2018)
Summary
U Turn is a 2018 bilingual supernatural thriller film (released simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil) that is a remake of the 2016 Kannada film of the same name. It blends a mystery investigation with a social message regarding civic sense and traffic rules. The story follows a young investigative journalist who uncovers a terrifying connection between a series of mysterious deaths and a seemingly minor traffic violation on a city flyover.
Plot
Rachana (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) is an ambitious intern journalist at a newspaper who decides to write an exposé on a specific flyover in the city. She notices that a large number of motorists routinely move the concrete dividers on the flyover to take an illegal U-turn and save time, often failing to put the blocks back, which causes accidents for others.
To gather names for her article, she seeks help from a local beggar who notes down the vehicle numbers of the offenders. When Rachana decides to interview the registered owners of these vehicles, she discovers a shocking pattern: every person on her list who broke the rule has died mysteriously within 24 hours of committing the violation, with police initially concluding the deaths were suicides.
Rachana is quickly implicated in the deaths and is taken into police custody. Sub-Inspector Nayak (Aadhi Pinisetty), an open-minded and persistent cop, believes her story and teams up with her to investigate the baffling case.
As they delve deeper, their investigation leads them to a tragic accident that occurred on the same flyover years ago. They discover a sinister, possibly supernatural, force targeting the traffic offenders as a form of karmic revenge for the reckless act of taking an illegal U-turn. The mystery hinges on uncovering the identity of the person seeking retribution and the true nature of the events—whether they are dealing with a serial killer or something paranormal.
