Plot:

Dr. Martin Harris (Liam Neeson), a respected biologist, arrives in Berlin with his wife Elizabeth (January Jones) to attend a major biotechnology summit. Moments after arriving at their hotel, Martin realizes he left his briefcase at the airport. He rushes back into a taxi driven by Gina (Diane Kruger), an undocumented immigrant from Bosnia. During their ride, an accident causes the taxi to plunge off a bridge into the river. Gina saves Martin’s life, but he falls into a coma.

Four days later, Martin wakes up in a Berlin hospital, disoriented and suffering from memory gaps. Determined to find his wife, he leaves the hospital and returns to the hotel. To his shock, Elizabeth claims not to know him — and another man has taken his identity, introducing himself as Dr. Martin Harris. The impostor has his passport, his job, his background, and even his wife’s recognition. Confused and desperate, Martin begins questioning his own sanity.

He soon discovers he is being watched and followed by mysterious men who want him dead. Realizing he cannot trust anyone, Martin searches for Gina, the taxi driver who saved his life. Though initially reluctant, she agrees to help him uncover the truth, fearing the danger surrounding him. Together, they retrace Martin’s movements, searching for clues about his accident, his missing identity, and the people trying to erase him.

Martin then seeks help from Ernst Jürgen (Bruno Ganz), a former East German spy with deep knowledge of covert operations. Jürgen realizes that Martin may be caught in the middle of a sophisticated conspiracy involving assassins, false identities, and political espionage. As parts of Martin’s memory return, he begins recovering fragments of his past — but the truth is far more shocking than he expected.

The investigation reveals that Martin is not a victim of identity theft — he is actually an undercover operative involved in a high-level assassination plot targeting a renowned scientist. His entire identity as "Dr. Martin Harris" was part of a fabricated cover. The man who replaced him is the operative assigned to complete the mission after Martin’s accident compromised the operation.

With Gina’s help, Martin embraces the truth about his past and decides to stop the assassination he was originally assigned to carry out. In a tense climax at the biotechnology summit, Martin confronts his former employers and the impostor. He fights to stop the attack and protect innocent lives, fully severing ties with his dark past.

In the end, Martin destroys the terrorist network and chooses to adopt a new identity, leaving behind the violent life he once lived. Gina joins him as he starts anew — not as a man searching for his identity, but as someone who finally understands who he truly is.
