Unstoppable (2010)

Summary:

Unstoppable is a high-octane action thriller inspired by a real-life event. The film follows a veteran locomotive engineer, Frank Barnes, and a young conductor, Will Colson, who find themselves in a race against time to stop a runaway freight train. The train is a massive, unmanned "missile" carrying a cargo of toxic chemicals that is hurtling toward a major city. As the world watches, the two unlikely heroes must risk their lives to prevent a catastrophic disaster, using their skills, courage, and knowledge of the rails.

Detailed Plot (Movie Story):

The film begins at the rail yard in Brewster, Pennsylvania. Two lazy and incompetent yard workers, in a hurry to finish their shift, make a critical error. They leave a freight train, called AWVR 777, with its engine running and its brakes disengaged, on a track. The train, a massive convoy of freight cars, begins to slowly roll down the track. It is a "coasting" train, and it is a "missile" that is hurtling toward the city.

The story then introduces the two main protagonists: Frank Barnes (Denzel Washington), a veteran engineer who is close to retirement and has a family to support, and Will Colson (Chris Pine), a young, new conductor who is still learning the ropes. They are on a train that is a few miles away from the runaway train.

The film's plot then becomes a thrilling race against time. The railroad company, led by the ruthless and cynical Oscar Galvin (Kevin Dunn), initially tries to downplay the incident, but they soon realize that they have a major problem on their hands. The train is a bomb, and it is on a collision course with a major city.

Galvin and the railroad company try a number of ways to stop the train, but they all fail. They try to derail it, but the plan goes wrong. They try to use a more powerful train to push it, but that also fails. All hope seems to be lost.

Frank and Will, who are on the same track as the runaway train, realize that they are the only ones who can save the day. They are a team of two, and they must use their knowledge of the rails to stop the train. Their mission is a high-stakes and dangerous one. They must follow the runaway train, and Frank must use his decades of experience to get close enough to the train to latch on to it.

The film's climax is a spectacular and nail-biting showdown. Frank, with Will's help, manages to get on top of the runaway train. He fights his way through the moving train, trying to get to the front to disengage the engine and apply the brakes. He has to jump from one moving car to another, and he is a moment away from falling to his death. The film concludes with a final, heart-pounding moment where Frank, with a single leap, manages to get to the front of the train and apply the brakes, stopping the train just a few feet away from a populated city. The film ends on a high note, with the two heroes being hailed as national heroes.
