WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT (2016)
Summary:
A jaded American cable news journalist, Kim Baker, seeks a change of pace and a new challenge by taking an assignment as a war correspondent in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Based on Kim Barker's memoir "The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan," the film follows her immersion into a chaotic, male-dominated world of war, culture clashes, and the peculiar camaraderie among foreign correspondents.
As Kim navigates the dangers and absurdities of her new life, she finds herself caught between the adrenaline of reporting from a conflict zone and the emotional toll it takes, forming unexpected bonds and confronting her own priorities.

Plot:
Kim Baker, a dissatisfied cable news producer in New York, decides to shake up her mundane life by volunteering for a dangerous assignment as a correspondent in Afghanistan in 2003. Upon arrival, she is thrown into a "kabob house" of foreign journalists and military personnel, where she quickly learns the ropes of reporting from a war zone, often relying on "F-bomb" (Forward Operating Base) trips and the assistance of her fixer, Fahim.
She forms friendships with fellow journalists, including the ambitious Tanya Vanderpoel and the charming but cynical Scottish photographer Iain MacKelpie. Kim also develops a professional, often tense, relationship with a Marine General, Hollanek, who initially dismisses her but comes to respect her tenacity. As Kim spends more time in Afghanistan, she becomes accustomed to the constant danger, the cultural eccentricities, and the unique brand of dark humor shared by those living and working there. Her initial six-month assignment stretches into years, and she finds herself increasingly desensitized to the violence while becoming addicted to the adrenaline and purpose her work provides. However, after a particularly harrowing incident involving Iain, Kim begins to question the true cost of her dedication to the "Kabul bubble" and decides it's time to leave.
