Plot:
Gerry Lane, a former UN investigator, is stuck in traffic with his family in Philadelphia when a sudden, violent outbreak of fast-moving zombies engulfs the city. He manages to escape with his wife Karin and two daughters, Rachel and Constance, thanks to his former UN contact, Thierry Umutoni, who arranges for their evacuation to a naval fleet offshore.
Umutoni informs Gerry that the global pandemic is escalating rapidly and offers his family refuge in exchange for Gerry's expertise in finding the source of the virus. Gerry reluctantly agrees and begins a perilous journey, first to a military base in South Korea where he learns about patient zero and the "zombie paradox" – that the infected ignore those who are already sick or weak. This observation proves critical as he travels to Jerusalem, which has built a massive wall to keep the infected out, only for a breach to occur due to the sheer noise of celebratory singing attracting the hordes.
After narrowly escaping Jerusalem with an Israeli soldier named Segen, Gerry's plane crashes in Wales. He leads Segen and a surviving WHO doctor to a World Health Organization research facility. There, he develops a theory that the zombies ignore terminally ill or severely injured individuals because they would not be suitable hosts for the virus to multiply efficiently. Risking his life, Gerry injects himself with a dangerous pathogen to test his theory, successfully walking among the zombies unnoticed. This discovery provides humanity with a potential camouflage, allowing them to fight back and begin developing a vaccine.
