A video game villain wants to be a hero and sets out to fulfill his dream, but his quest brings havoc to the whole arcade where he lives.

WRECK-IT RALPH (2012)

Summary:

Wreck-It Ralph, the titular villain of an 8-bit arcade game called "Fix-It Felix Jr.", dreams of becoming a hero. Tired of being overshadowed by his game's good guy, Felix, Ralph abandons his game and "game-jumps" into other arcade worlds in search of a medal, believing it will earn him the respect he craves.

His quest leads him to the gritty first-person shooter "Hero's Duty" and then to the sugary-sweet kart-racing game "Sugar Rush." In Sugar Rush, he befriends Vanellope von Schweetz, a feisty "glitch" who is barred from racing. Together, they embark on an adventure to help Vanellope race and save their respective games from a looming threat, discovering the true meaning of heroism and friendship along the way.

Plot:

Ralph, the antagonist in the arcade game "Fix-It Felix Jr.," is ostracized by the other characters for his destructive role. Yearning for acceptance, he attends a "Bad-Anon" support group for video game villains. Determined to prove he can be a hero, Ralph leaves his game and enters "Hero's Duty," a modern first-person shooter, where he manages to obtain a medal. However, he accidentally brings a dangerous Cy-Bug, an enemy from Hero's Duty, with him when he crash-lands in "Sugar Rush," a kart-racing game themed around candy.

In Sugar Rush, Ralph encounters Vanellope von Schweetz, a glitch character who dreams of racing but is constantly bullied and forbidden from competing by the game's ruler, King Candy. Vanellope steals Ralph's medal, intending to use it to buy her way into the race. Ralph and Vanellope form an unlikely alliance: Ralph helps Vanellope build a kart and overcome her glitching, while Vanellope helps Ralph understand that being a hero isn't about medals. Meanwhile, Fix-It Felix Jr. and Sergeant Calhoun from Hero's Duty pursue Ralph, fearing his absence will cause their games to be unplugged, and unaware of the multiplying Cy-Bug threat.

As the Cy-Bugs begin to infest Sugar Rush, Ralph, Vanellope, Felix, and Calhoun uncover King Candy's true identity: he is Turbo, a forgotten character from an old arcade game who sabotaged Sugar Rush and suppressed Vanellope's code, making her a glitch, to usurp the throne. Ralph ultimately sacrifices himself to create an explosive beacon to lure the Cy-Bugs into a Mentos volcano, destroying them. Vanellope crosses the finish line, resetting her code and revealing she is the rightful princess of Sugar Rush. With the arcade saved, Ralph returns to his game, finding true contentment and respect, understanding that his role, good or bad, is essential and appreciated.
