"Yeh Hai Zindagi" (2019) is the Hindi dubbed version of the Telugu film "Yevade Subramanyam." It tells the story of Subramanyam, a materialistic and ambitious IIM graduate who is driven by success in the corporate world. He works under his ruthless boss, Pasupathi, and together they aim to acquire the company of Pasupathi's rival, Ramayya.
Subbu, a master manipulator, successfully acquires Ramayya's company, solidifying his position and leading to his engagement with Pasupathi's daughter, Rhea. However, this success comes at a cost – it alienates him from his true self and the joys of life beyond material possessions.
This all changes when he reconnects with his childhood friend, Rishi, a free-spirited soul who embraces life's simple pleasures. Rishi introduces Subbu to Anandi, a vibrant and lonely young woman. Rishi, with infectious enthusiasm, invites Subbu on a pilgrimage to Doodh Kasi, a sacred lake nestled high in the Himalayas.
Meanwhile, Subbu faces a setback in his professional life when the acquisition of Ramayya's company faces unexpected hurdles. Desperate to salvage the deal, Subbu approaches Ramayya directly, but his efforts are unsuccessful. Feeling lost and disillusioned, Subbu finds himself drawn to Rishi's invitation to Doodh Kasi.
Rishi subtly hints that the key to resolving the business crisis lies within their journey to the Himalayas. This intriguing clue leads them back to Anandi, whose father holds crucial shares that could sway the outcome of the acquisition.
Subbu and Rishi befriend Anandi, but Subbu's ulterior motives remain clear – to secure her father's shares. However, Anandi repeatedly delays signing the necessary documents, creating an internal conflict within Subbu. His ambition clashes with the growing connection he feels with Anandi and the profound influence of Rishi's carefree spirit.
Their journey takes a tragic turn when they encounter a young girl injured on the road. Despite their efforts, the girl succumbs to her injuries due to delayed medical attention. This deeply impacts Rishi and leads to a heated argument with Subbu. Rishi criticizes Subbu's materialistic pursuit of success, while Subbu accuses Rishi of living a purposeless life. The argument leaves a chasm between the two friends.
Tragedy strikes again when Rishi dies in an accident. Grief-stricken, Subbu travels to Kolkata with Anandi to attend Rishi's funeral. There, in a poignant moment of shared sorrow, Anandi makes a profound offer: she will provide him with the necessary shares if he agrees to accompany her to Doodh Kasi to scatter Rishi's ashes.
Subbu and Anandi embark on the journey to the sacred lake, guided by a seasoned local named Pemba. As they navigate the challenging terrain, Subbu begins an unexpected transformation. The serene beauty of the Himalayas, the quietude of nature, and the wisdom of Pemba begin to chip away at his materialistic facade. He starts to appreciate the present moment, finding solace in the simple joys of the journey.
Their path crosses with Robert, a multi-billionaire who has spent his life chasing wealth, only to find himself deeply regretful, yearning for genuine human connection. Robert's poignant story serves as a powerful wake-up call for Subbu, reinforcing the importance of living a fulfilling life beyond the confines of material possessions.
A pivotal moment arrives when Subbu assists a pregnant woman in labor, experiencing the profound joy of witnessing new life. This act of selfless service further deepens his transformation. As they continue their journey, a genuine affection blossoms between Subbu and Anandi.
Returning from Doodh Kasi, a changed Subbu breaks off his engagement with Rhea and returns Ramayya's company to its rightful owner. He even applies for a job at Ramayya's firm, a symbolic gesture of his renunciation of his previous, ruthlessly ambitious self. In the film's poignant conclusion, Subbu, now embracing a life of purpose and meaning, looks at Anandi and softly asks for a "share" in her life, a subtle yet profound declaration of his love.
