The film introduces Zohan Dvir (Adam Sandler), a legendary Israeli counter-terrorism soldier who is known for his superhuman strength, his invincibility, and his love for disco music. In a dramatic and spectacular showdown with his arch-nemesis, Fatoush "The Phantom" (John Turturro), a Palestinian terrorist, Zohan fakes his own death. He then secretly travels to New York City, where he tries to start a new life. He is a man of immense physical strength, but he is a complete fish out of water in the world of hairdressing.

He tries to get a job at a salon, but he is laughed at and rejected. He finally gets a job at a salon run by a beautiful and kind Palestinian woman, Dalia Hakim (Emmanuelle Chriqui).
