Plot:
The film opens with audio recordings from the September 11th attacks before introducing Maya, a young CIA analyst, to a black site in Pakistan in 2003. She is immediately exposed to "enhanced interrogation techniques" being used on detainees by her colleague, Dan. Over the next several years, Maya becomes obsessed with intelligence related to bin Laden, meticulously sifting through vast amounts of data and pushing for leads, often clashing with superiors who doubt her theories or the methods used to obtain information.
Her relentless focus eventually leads her to a crucial lead: the identity of bin Laden's personal courier, Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti. Despite setbacks and the tragic loss of colleagues in a suicide bombing, Maya's persistence, combined with the efforts of other intelligence operatives, allows the CIA to pinpoint a heavily fortified compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, believed to be al-Kuwaiti's residence. Maya becomes convinced that bin Laden himself is hiding there. After intense debate and a high-stakes intelligence assessment, the US government authorizes a covert raid.
The climax of the film depicts the May 2011 raid by Navy SEAL Team Six on the Abbottabad compound, executed with precise detail and harrowing tension. The operation successfully locates and kills Osama bin Laden. In the aftermath, Maya, having achieved her singular, decade-long objective, is seen alone on a military transport plane, her expression a mix of exhaustion, relief, and profound emptiness.
